State Leadership Conference (SLC)

Can a student’s parents attend the Opening and/or Awards sessions?

Yes, any family or guests who register for the conference may attend those sessions if there is enough capacity.

The guidelines specify only one submission per chapter for some recognition events, but multiple students worked on the event. Who do I register?

As we will recognize the chapter, and not a specific student, it does not matter which student is registered for that event, as long as you register one student to let us know your chapter is participating. Please do not register multiple students, as this would indicate multiple submissions.

I have a student who backed out after the deadline, what can I do?

You can replace the student in a team event if that student participated in that event at RCE.

If replacing a student not on a team event, they may only participate in leadership activities and ATC Testing.

Will a lunch be provided for my students at the conference?

Meals are not provided, but there are many food options close to the Hilton Hotel in Anaheim.

What should I wear to the Opening and Awards sessions? What should my student wear to workshops?

Where do my students/my chapter log their hours for National Service Project and Barbara James Service Award?

Hours must be logged in the HOSA Tracking System before the state deadline listed in the Cal-HOSA competitive event guidelines.

ILC deadline is posted in the ILC event guidelines.

My student has another commitment (band competition, soccer tournament, etc.), can they take their test/compete at an earlier/later time?

No exceptions will be made for competitive event times. It is the understanding of California HOSA that in an organization of Future Health Professionals, events will be taken seriously and made a priority.

Where do I send registration and hotel payment?

Registration fees should be sent to California CTSO Finance and printed on your chapter invoice.

Payment to the hotel will need to be taken care of prior to arrival or by school check/credit card upon arrival.

Does the advisor need to attend the entire SLC?

A chapter advisor must attend the entire SLC.  If not, the chapter will be sent home at the chapter’s/district’s expense.

What is the Advisor/chaperone to student ratio for the SLC?

Cal-HOSA requires a minimum of 1:10 ratio, but you must comply with your district ratio if it is more stringent.

My student will only be registered for a Competitive Event that is test only. All online tests are prior to the physical SLC. Do they still have to attend SLC?

Yes, if a student does not attend the SLC, they will not receive their awards.

Can my student compete in more than one event?

Students may compete in one (1) online test event from the health science events category. They can also compete in one (1) event from one of the following categories: health professions, emergency preparedness, leadership, and teamwork. Students can compete in an unlimited number of recognition events and ATC Testing.
